Mike Krzyzewski has led the Blue Devils to 13 ACC tournament championships in his 33 years at Duke. Coach K previewed this year’s conference tournament this week on Basketball and Beyon.

This ACC tournament has always been very special to me. We believe in the tournament and we’ve had a lot of great basketball moments there.

Coaching strategy for conference tournaments is a hot topic in March. Some coaches who have already secured a bid to the NCAA tournament prefer to rest their key players and not risk injury. Other coaches, like Coach K, appreciate the history of the event.

I envy my team, the players, they have a chance to make history … When people ask you, ‘Why do you continue to coach, what do you have to accomplish?’ It’s not a matter of what you have to accomplish, it’s a matter of wanting to get chills, share a moment with a new player, a new team. If you’re fortunate enough that it does happen, it becomes as special a moment as you’ve ever had because its the first one with that group.

How does Coach K feel about Duke’s chances in this year’s ACC tournament?

I like where we’re at right now. One of the main reasons is we’re healthy. Last year I wish we could have approached it a different way … we were kind of pacing ourselves because of (Ryan) Kelly and (Seth) Curry’s injuries. We’re going to try to go into this tournament with full speed.

Coach K takes to the airwaves throughout the college basketball season and the NCAA tournament on SiriusXM College Sports Nation. Basketball and Beyond with Coach K, co-hosted by Dave Sims, is in its ninth season, and is available live on Ch. 91, on the SiriusXM app and on SiriusXM On Demand.
