San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, left, talks with Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Doug Baldwin, right, following an NFL football game, Sunday, Sept. 25, 2016, in Seattle. The Seahawks defeated the 49ers 37-18.

So far, the Seattle Seahawks haven’t gone beyond kicking the tires on free agent Colin Kaepernick.

For now, the only new backup quarterback they’ve added is Austin Davis.

‘We wouldn’t treat him any differently than anybody else’

But as long as Kaepernick remains unemployed, the question will linger: how would Seahawk players treat one of the NFL’s most polarizing figures as a teammate? Wide receiver Doug Baldwin, for one, thinks the former San Francisco 49er would fit in just fine.

“We wouldn’t treat him any differently than anybody else that would come into our locker room,” Baldwin told Bruce Murray and Brady Quinn on the SiriusXM Blitz. “Regardless of anything that’s happened in the past, anything that’s been out in the media, anything that’s been discussed, we wouldn’t treat him any differently. He would come in, he would be held to a high standard, just like everybody else. You come in and you compete. Whether you’re the starting quarterback or you’re the last guy on the roster, you come in and you compete for a job at a high level.

‘From everything I’ve heard, he’s nothing but a great guy in the locker room’

“From what I understand, from everything I’ve heard, he’s nothing but a great guy in the locker room. He’s a team guy and players love him because of his work ethic. So with all those attributes, I don’t think he would not fit in our locker room. And, again, we have a very welcoming, inviting locker room, but we also hold guys to a high standard, so he wouldn’t be treated any differently.

“And if he was in our team, I would welcome him with open arms.”
