Looking for a quick way to finish in the basement of your fantasy football league again in 2014? Draft a starting quarterback too early.

Wednesday on SiriusXM Fantasy Sports Radio, STATS Fantasy Advantage’s Tom Kessenich and Greg Ambrosius reminded listeners they should wait until the fifth round or later to select a QB1.

“Wait, wait, wait on the quarterback position,” Kessenich and Ambrosius said. “Only those three guys [Peyton Manning, Drew Brees and Aaron Rodgers] are going in the top 50 typically, and there’s a lot of talent going up later in the draft.

According to Kessenich and Ambrosius, the current quarterback rankings based on NFFC average draft position are:

  1. Manning
  2. Brees
  3. Rodgers
  4. Matthew Stafford
  5. Andrew Luck
  6. Nick Foles
  7. Robert Griffin III
  8. Tom Brady
  9. Colin Kaepernick
  10. Matt Ryan
  11. Tony Romo
  12. Cam Newton

Kessenich and Ambrosius also pointed out that Manning is the only quarterback typically going in the first round.
