In the bottom of the 7th in game 5 of the ALDS, Jose Bautista launched a tie-breaking moonshot into left field that gave the Toronto Blue Jays the 6-3 lead they needed to defeat the Texas Rangers and advance to the ALCS. As the ball traveled, Bautista stood on home plate and watched it leave the yard, then flipped his bat high into the air before beginning his trot.

While many are calling out the outfielder for the bat flip, Mad Dog Sports Radio’s Adam Schein explained why he’s all for it.

“He took a pitch in his wheelhouse and he absolutely smacked it,” Schein said. “If you’re a fan of the Toronto Blue Jays it was amazing, it was spectacular, it was emotional, it was surreal. And guess what Bautista did? He didn’t flip the bat. No, no, no, no, no. The emotional heartbeat of the Toronto Blue Jays took that baseball bat and chucked it.”

Schein continued.

“Do you know what was? Awesome, emotional, real. That was human. That was what baseball’s been missing for a long, long time.”
