The Arizona Cardinals aren’t in any hurry to find a quarterback of the future.

That was why they didn’t address the position during the NFL Draft, team president Michael Bidwill told Alex Marvez and Mark Dominik on the SiriusXM Blitz.

‘They’re going to be quarterbacks potentially in free agency or via trade or drafting’

And, as Bidwill pointed out, quality quarterbacks can be found in places other than the draft. The Cardinals have certainty proved that.

“We’ve got time on the quarterback situation,” Bidwill said. “They’re going to be quarterbacks potentially in free agency or via trade or drafting. We’ve got some time there, and I think this organization’s done a good job of identifying players that maybe weren’t in the right system and then were able to flourish later. It’s Carson Palmer and prior to that, it’s Hall-of-Famer now, Kurt Warner.

‘Our mentality is to win now, but also be building for the future’

“So we’re hopeful to find the next one of those types of players and, if not, we’ve got the draft next year as well, so we’ll keep plugging away. Our mentality is to win now, but also be building for the future and we think we’ve done that with a great draft of players that’ll play different roles. We did not draft a quarterback, though, this year.”

Bidwell said it was still too early to say how the Cardinals would proceed with the conditional reinstatement the NFL gave¬†linebacker Daryl Washington, who has been suspended for three years,¬†right before last month’s draft.

‘We want to go through a thorough process’ with reinstated linebacker Washington

“Before the draft, we wanted to focus on the draft, which we did and last thing there were a lot of things going on, including in his life,” Bidwill said. “And so we want to go through a thorough process. We haven’t seen him. It’s actually been three years that he’s been suspended, so we haven’t seen him in three years and so to be able to get to know the person again and get to know the player again, that doesn’t happen in a 30-minute meeting. So we’re going to go through a process and get to a decision here hopefully fairly soon.”
