Bruno Mars lent his vocals to arguably the catchiest song of 2014, Mark Ronson’s Uptown Funk. Now, the pop star has finally released a new, equally smooth single, 24K Magic.
Mars stopped by the SiriusXM studios Tuesday to talk about the song and upcoming album of the same title.
“24K Magic is the invitation to the party, everybody,” he said on The Morning Mash Up. “This is the show opener.”
The crooner also joked about “bawling my eyes out” and “eating ice cream” watching Adele perform recently at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
“She’s just the truth,” he said. “She’s just a serious singer, you know, and she puts it out there every time she gets on stage.”
As for last weekend’s Saturday Night Live performance, which he started with cameras following him backstage, Mars admitted he “begged” producers to help him shake up the format.
“They’re the best. Every time I go there they show me nothing but love, and I thought it was fun,” he said of his fourth SNL appearance.
The 24K Magic album will be released Nov. 18, and Mars starts a Las Vegas residency in December before hitting the road on tour.
After scooping up Grammys and slaying at the Super Bowl, what’s next?
“It’s just competing with myself. I got a level that I wanted this album to sound like, and I’m not gonna stop until I feel that feeling in the studio and until it’s genuinely moving me and it’s something that I’m genuinely proud of and can’t wait to unleash it to the world. And it’s always a puzzle,” Mars told Dion Summers on The Heat.
“Taking a song, that’s turning nothing into something, and that’s when I feel the most alive,” the singer-songwriter went on, describing the origins of 24K Magic. “It started with all of us just screaming in the studio, ‘Put your pinky fingers to the moon,’ and then figuring out that puzzle and going on that journey to ‘how do I make this song something that can translate to the world and have everybody partying with me.'”
