Lady Gaga‘s new single Perfect Illusion is topping the charts — and getting the rumor mill grinding.

With lyrics like “It wasn’t love,” Little Monsters quickly associated the empowering kiss-off anthem with the pop star’s July split from fiance Taylor Kinney.

But speaking candidly Monday on Andy Cohen Live, Gaga clarified it’s not a breakup ballad about any one person.

“It’s sort of the elephant in the room: Perfect Illusion. ‘Is it about Taylor?’ is what everyone’s wondering. And maybe it’s because I know you, but I love Taylor so, so much and this song is not a hit out against Taylor. He’s my best friend,” she said. “This song is just about, I’m sure not only feelings that I’ve had but that he’s had, that my friends have had, that my sister has in her relationship. It’s a record about all of us, you know? And I would never use my song or want to use the public to hurt anyone that I love so much.”

Cohen asked if she and the Chicago Fire actor “beautifully consciously uncoupled” a la Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin.

“I don’t know if I would even say it that way. I don’t think we’ve like un- anything. We’re just two people figuring it out,” she replied.

Andy Cohen Live airs Mondays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on SiriusXM Radio Andy (Ch. 102). Watch Gaga answer fans’ questions on the SiriusXM Hits 1 (Ch. 2) Morning Mash Up here.
