Jason Ellis talks to Joanna Angel about sexual assault accusations against ex-boyfriend, porn star James Deen

If you happen to be following the social media and blogosphere story unfolding about porn star James Deen, then you know that on Saturday afternoon, in a series of tweets, his ex-girlfriend Stoya, a porn star, writer and producer, accused him of rape during the time that they were dating. Then, other women—both who have worked with him in the industry and dated him—started coming forward with their own allegations.

On Sunday, after Stoya’s accusations, Deen himself replied, denying them from his own twitter account, saying “There have been some egregious claims made against me on social media/I want to assure my friends, fans and colleagues that these allegations are both false and defamatory/I respect women and I know and respect limits both professionally and privately.”

Not only did several women come forward with their own stories of alleged assault by the actor and producer, but others came forward to offer their support.

One of those women was another ex-girlfiend, credited with discovering Deen, and a porn star and producer in her own right, Joanna Angel who tweeted “He’s dead on the inside and dead to me. He’s literally the worst person I’ve ever met. That’s all I’ll say for now #solidaritywithstoya.”

Today on The Jason Ellis Show, Angel sat down to talk about her past relationship with Deen and comment on the accusations.

“I would love for him to not be around the porn industry. It seems like it’s going in that direction, but who knows,” she said. “The porn industry is comprised of a lot of different people. It’s a bunch of different companies, and if a company still wants to hire him, and a girl still wants to work with him … I mean he has his own company.”

One point that makes this story particularly noteworthy to people who are not porn industry insiders, i.e. the mainstream media, is that up until this point, Deen was perceived as a woman-friendly porn star, mostly because of his clean, boyish good looks. And has even been called a feminist.

“At some point he became revered as, like, a feminist by all these feminist blogs. And it angered me!” Angel said. “Where are they getting this from? There are a lot of men in porn who truly love women, and they’re funny and they’re interesting and they’re good people. Why did the world latch on to him?”

But Angel, a producer in her own right, insisted that the industry is not to blame. “I need to defend my industry. This does not represent porn. This represents a specific individual and I do not want the public to blame porn for anything. I think he is a bad egg. There are bad eggs in every industry,” she said.
