The Dean Obeidallah Show: GOP’s war on comedy, did ISIS really blow up Russian jet, Black Lives Matters and more!

On my live show Saturday, my guests will be bringing you news from around the globe – literally. NBC’s Ayman Mohyeldin will be joining me live from Cairo, Egypt, to talk the latest into the investigation of the Russian airliner that crashed earlier this week in Egypt. Was it really the work of ISIS? Ayman will give us up to the minute news from the ground in Cairo.

Will FOX News and the GOP apologize to Black Lives Matters? CNN contributor Marc Lamont Hill will be on to talk two big stories. First, he recently visited Israel and Palestine and will share some of his observations from the region. But we will also talk about the death of Fox Lake, Ill. police officer Lt. Joe Gliniewicz. As you may recall, in September, Gliniewicz was shot and killed, sparking a wave of attacks on the Black Lives Matters (BLM) movement by many Republicans and FOX News commentators. BLM was blamed for allegedly creating a toxic climate that led to the police officer’s shooting. Well, after a thorough two month investigation, authorities concluded that Gliniewicz had actually committed suicide by way of an elaborate ruse. Gliniewicz was trying to cover his tracks after stealing thousands of dollars from his community. Of course, not a peep from those who attacked BLM over this shooting.

The Democratic Debate from a GOP point of view? After last week’s Republican presidential debate, I welcomed Democratic strategist Maria Cardona on my show to share her views of the event. Well, to be truly “fair and balanced,” this week I’ll have on GOP strategist and former Bush administration official Suhail Khan to give us his take on the Democratic presidential debate scheduled for Friday night.

The GOP’s war on comedy! As I wrote about for The Daily Beast this week, the Iowa State GOP chair refused to issue press credentials to The Daily Show because he was “afraid they were going to make fun of Iowa.” And the GOP frontrunner in many new polls, Ben Carson, stated, “I think the presidency of the United States is a very serious thing. I don’t even want to begin to put it in the lightness of comedy.” We even saw Donald Trump attacking John Oliver over his jokes about The Donald. Comedian Scott Blakeman will join me to talk about whether the GOP is waging a war on comedy, and if it’s it because many on the right simply fear comedy because they aren’t good at it.

Not only do I hope you listen on Saturday, but better yet gives us a call at 877-974-7487 and join the conversation. I want to hear what you think about these issues.
