It has been some week for Muslims, from Donald Trump saying we have a “Muslim problem” to telling us “I love the Muslims!” Then GOP presidential candidate Ben Carson not only declared that a Muslim should not be president, he even claimed that Islam is not compatible with the US Constitution. As a Muslim, I could use a hug! (And so could most of our community.)

On my live show Saturday morning I will address the questions Ben Carson raised:

1. Is Islam compatible with the US Constitution?

2. Do Muslims really want to impose laws in the United States based on the Koran (sharia law)?

I’ll be joined by Zainab Chaudry, writer and head of the Baltimore chapter of the Council on American Islamic Relations and from Duke University’s Divinity School, Imam Abdullah Antepli to have an honest conversation on this issue for the second hour of the show. We will be taking your calls to answer your questions (judgment free) because it’s time to address these issues with brutal honesty and without anyone being defensive.

Is the 2016 Republican presidential campaign the most bigoted in modern day political history? There have, of course, been racial undertones in past presidential candidates by both Democratic and Republican candidates. But in 2016, the undertones have been replaced with outright hateful bigotry by certain Republican candidates. Donald Trump has argued that Latinos are sneaking in the country to “rape women” and “kill” Americans. Ben Carson announced that Muslims should not be trusted because we want to undermine our system of government. And Jeb Bush, while not in same league as Carson and Trump in terms of hate, also is stoking fears of white America when he said this week, “we should not have a multicultural society.” I’ll be joined in the first hour of my show by NBC contributor and USA Today columnist Raul Reyes and former Bush administration official and Republican strategist Suhail Khan to discuss this issue.

I hope you not only tune into the show Saturday morning, but call in and join the conversation at 877-974-7487. As always, I want to hear what your views on these issues.

My show airs live every Saturday at 10am to noon ET on SiriusXM Insight (Ch 121) and repeats several times over the weekend. It is also available On Demand. Hope you check it out and better yet give us a call during the show to “Ask a Muslim” a question, discuss issues of the week or even be contestant on our weekly segment “Name That Religion.” And as always, I want to be your Muslim friend – so if you don’t have one follow me on Twitter at @deanofcomedy and I’ll follow you back or ask me questions at facebook.com/deanofradio.
