PROGRESS THIS WEEK: BOMBS CONTINUE TO DROP

August 11, 2014

As the week ended we unfortunately saw a resurgence of violence in Israel, Gaza and now in Iraq. While these are truly complex and difficult issues to understand, controversial activist and Media critic M.J. Rosenberg told Make It Plain’s Mark Thompson his take on the current Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

While there was plenty of bad news this week, it was also a sad week, especially for anti-gun violence activists. Jim Brady, who passed away on Monday 8/4 was the White House press secretary during the Reagan Administration, and the other man besides President Reagan who was shot by John Hinckley, Jr. Since that horrible day Jim Brady became an influential gun control advocate; one of SiriusXM Progress’ regular guests and guest-host Joe Sudbay came on The Agenda with Ari Rabin-Havt to discuss the years Joe worked side by side with Jim Brady.

As we heard from Joe Sudbay, Jim Brady wasn’t just a tireless advocate, he was an amazing human being.

Some of the folks we talked about this week weren’t so amazing; Vikings Special Teams Coordinator Mike Priefer made anti-gay remarks, saying gays should be rounded up and nuked. Michelangelo Signorile spoke with Minnesota State Sen. Scott Dibble who is calling for a harsher penalty for the Vikings Special Teams Coordinator.

And on a lighter note, Mark Thompson spoke with actor Chadwick Boseman who told us about getting the role of James Brown in his upcoming biopic, Get On Up
