Detroit Lions 2014 training camp report from SiriusXM NFL Radio

August 8, 2014

SiriusXM NFL Radio’s 10th annual training camp tour rolled into Allen Park, Mich., on Thursday, Aug. 8, as Jim Miller and Pat Kirwan stopped by Detroit Lions camp.

Detroit Lions to Watch

Jim Miller has his eye on defensive tackle Nick Fairley, who did not have his fifth-year option picked up by the Lions:

“I think he’s got a lot to play for […] recognized he had a problem this off-season in terms of the sleep apnea, goes out, gets the surgery, got his weight down. I think he understands how important this year is […] I think he’s up to the challenge.”

Pat Kirwan is watching new wide receiver Golden Tate, who is more than insurance in case Calvin Johnson gets hurt:

“He’s going to see a lot of off coverage. [The Lions] went out and found a young guy that has run skills. So when you see that soft coverage on the back side, and you put the ball on a five-yard stop route to Golden Tate, he’s going to do a lot with his YAC [yards after catch]. Watch his YAC be one of the best in the league this year.”
