5 things we learned from Sway’s interview with Andre Iguodala

July 1, 2014

2012 NBA All-Star. NBA All-Defensive First Team in 2013-14. Athletic, versatile, tenacious.

If you like basketball, you like Andre Iguodala.

Last week on Sway in the Morning, the Golden State Warriors veteran spoke with Sway, Heather B. and Tracy G. about life in the Bay Area, playing for the Golden State Warriors, and his NBA career highlights. Some of what we learned from the interview:

1. Two of ‘Dala’s favorite career moments include the 2006 Slam Dunk Contest and playing alongside Allen Iverson in Philly …

You’ll notice when watching these highlights of Iguodala in that dunk contest that Charles Barkley called Hakim Warrick (!) a better athlete than the former Sixer.

2. … but his crossover on Quincy Miller last year is up there, too.

Said Iguodala on the crossover:

It’s funny, that’s my young boy. He was my rookie. So I had to kind of teach him the ropes when I was in Denver that year. I don’t know what he was doing. I was like, “Dude, you’re guarding me full court, half court – like, what were you thinking?” He was like, “I was just trying to steal the ball,” and I’m like, “That’s what happens.”

3. Iguodala’s backup career plan? Math professor

Recalled Iguodala:

It was weird because I was a late bloomer coming out of high school. There was another guy who I played ball with in high school, he was ranked, like, the No. 2 player in the country, and he was younger than me. I was kind of overlooked. I didn’t know I was going to play in the NBA until somebody was like, you can go to the NBA, and this was like two months before the draft and I declared. I was like – I never knew. I had a really good pre-calc teacher in high school. And she told me, always, there was a shortage of African-American teachers in general, especially in math. So I had plans of being a math teacher going into college.

4. Steph Curry is the best golfer in the NBA

According to Iguodala, most shooters in the NBA can play, J.R. Smith being one of them.

5. Sway got Iguodala hooked on Childish Gambino

Then again, who didn’t get hooked on Gambino after watching and hearing this freestyle:

Unfortunately, Iguodala wouldn’t freestyle for Sway, though he did admit to occasionally freestyling at home.
