All-American rock ‘n roll: Celebrate Elvis on the Red Hot & Blues Holiday Weekend

June 30, 2014

There are few things more all-American than the King. So to celebrate the holiday weekend, which just so happens to fall on the 60th Anniversary of Elvis Presley’s first professional recording of That’s All Right Mama, Elvis Radio is throwing an anniversary bash dubbed the Red Hot & Blues Holiday weekend.

To start, on Thursday 7/3, Elvis Radio celebrates Ten Years of Elvis Radio, taking you deep into the Elvis Radio archives with classic music specials.

On Friday 7/4 at 8 pm ET, Elvis Radio will feature the global world premiere of Destination USA, the Follow That Dream collectors’ label release from September 4, 1972.

Later that night, at 9 pm ET, hear a show from the Elvis Radio Archives, Elvis Week 2007, hosted by George Klein. The George Klein Super Session with Jerry Schilling and Joe Esposito will be a free wheelin’ open conversation with the three men who spent the most time with Elvis dating back to 1948. They’ll discuss Elvis’ US Army service, his movie and film career, and, of course, his time spent in the recording studio and on the stage.

Finally, on Saturday 7/5 at 12 pm ET, Elvis Radio presents the 60th celebration of The Big Bang of Rock & Roll, where veteran Elvis DJ Big Jim Sykes looks back 60 years ago to 1954 with historic memories from guitar greats Scotty Moore, Sam Phillips, DJ Fontana, George Klein, and, of course, the DJ who played the very first Elvis record on the radio: Dewey Phillips.
