All week, EW Morning Live hosts Dalton Ross and Jessica Shaw are coming to you from the set of Survivor: San Juan Del Sur – Blood vs. Water in Nicaragua, bringing you a behind-the-scenes look at the newest season with host Jeff Probst.
Joining in on the action, Dalton and Jessica are finding out first-hand what the competitions are like by going through some of the obstacle courses and challenges. But first, they’re getting exclusive scoops on what’s in store for both contestants and viewers.
First off, while Probst told us a few weeks ago that Redemption Island was coming back, things have changed. Asking himself what they could do to put the heat on contestants who “really love each other,” Probst said, “We’re not doing Redemption Island. When you’re out, you’re out.” Below he explains why and what this means for this season.
There are an endless number of mishaps that have happened over the 28 (this is number 29) seasons of Survivor, but what is Probst’s number one? “We just lost two contestants yesterday… we came out with 20. We spend months casting our show… and you finally get your 20 and through no fault of their own, just a medical situation, they can’t play.” And that’s not just disappointing after all the effort that went into choosing the contestants. It has real implications for not only the competition but for the other competitors.
