Lamarcus Joyner, the defensive back from Florida State drafted in the second round by the St. Louis Rams on Friday, said seventh-round pick Michael Sam and the Rams will be a “great fit” this season.
“He’s a great guy,” Joyner said of Sam, who was the first openly gay player drafted into the National Football League. “I’m a Christian believer, I don’t discriminate against anyone. No nationality, no sexuality, no nothing. I met the guy at the Bronko Nagurski ceremony, the top defensive players in the country; he was a great guy, great smile, great football player. I don’t think [his sexuality] should be held against him.”
Joyner also spoke with SiriusXM NFL Radio about his college teammate, Kelvin Benjamin, who was selected by the Carolina Panthers in the first round of the draft.
