Phil Simms calls Derek Carr the draft’s ‘safest’ QB

May 6, 2014

If Phil Simms were put in the position where he needed to start a rookie quarterback under center in 2014, his choice would be Derek Carr, he said Monday on SiriusXM NFL Radio.

“Derek Carr makes me feel the safest, because I don’t have a real knock on him,” Simms explained. “There’s no true weakness in anything he does. Size, speed, experience, power throwing the football, pretty instinctive when it comes to running, can take advantage of his athletic abilities. You know, I think I would sweat less with him than I would with any other pick at quarterback right now. And that’s comes out of me pretty easily.”

Later, Simms was asked with which team he felt Johnny Manziel would be best fit. Simms picked the St. Louis Rams due to Jeff Fisher‘s system, and his history with mobile quarterbacks, including Vince Young and Steve McNair.
