If Steve Kerr is the favorite to land the New York Knicks’ vacant head coaching job, Bill Cartwright is the clubhouse leader to land a job as his top assistant.
Tuesday on SiriusXM NBA Radio, Cartwright spoke with Frank Isola and Stacey King about the chances of him getting a job in New York.
“I would say that I’ve been in communication with Phil [Jackson],” Cartwright said. “It was funny because I was talking to my wife, and it was reported that Sunday I had dinner with Phil. And I was like, ‘Wow, I must be really good, I had dinner with you Sunday and Phil.’ I’ve been in contact with Phil, and hopefully that works out the right way.”
Cartwright also spoke highly of Kerr, who could soon be his new boss.
“He did an incredible job as the GM in Phoenix,” Cartwright said. “I called him up and I was able to get over there and get on the coaching staff, and I thought he did a wonderful job. Steve’s gonna be an excellent coach.”
