Jack Bauer is back, badass, and… a binge TV watcher? Well, Kiefer Sutherland certainly is. Sutherland recently stopped by SiriusXM to talk about his not-so-incognito life as an actor and the premiere of 24: Live Another Day. The half as long but twice as thrilling installment of the series returns to the small screen tonight on Fox.
Entertainment Weekly Editor Matt Bean asked Sutherland if he talks to real-life CIA operatives off-screen to get insight on his character Jack Bauer. Here’s what he said:
“I was on a ski lift in Vancouver, and I had on goggles, a hat, and a muffler. I think all you could see was my nose,” Sutherland said. “And I’m sitting on the ski lift, and there’s a guy to my left, and he looks over and he says, ‘I like your show… I actually am a CIA operative.’ At the top of the lift, he said, ‘I would really like if you could call my mother and explain to her why I can’t get everything done in 24 hours.'”
With all the action, explosives, and sound of that constantly ticking clock, 24 is definitely a binge-worthy series. But what does Sutherland gorge himself on when he’s taking TV time?
“There were two shows I did [binge-watch]. The Wire was one of them… It was an insight into the inner city problems in America like nothing I had never seen before. I found it educational as well as entertaining,” Sutherland said. “I did a film called Pompeii with Kit Harington, who is one of the lead actors in Game of Thrones… I wanted to watch that so I would be more familiar with his work. I got the box sets… I found myself binge-watching Game of Thrones.”
