While the world reacted to the racist comments by Clippers owner Donald Sterling that came to light over the weekend, the NBA was methodically investigating and sifting fact from fiction before levying any punishment.
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver left no doubt who the boss is on Tuesday when announcing the results of that investigation.
Silver wielded the full power of his position and banned Sterling from the league for life, in addition to fining him the maximum allowed under the NBA constitution, $2.5 million. He also said he would do everything within his power to force the sale of the team.
Upon hearing the news, SiriusXM Sports’ hosts reacted. Mad Dog Sports Radio’s Adam Schein did a radio standing ovation for the move.
Former Clippers GM and coach Mike Dunleavy talked about his time with Sterling, and whether the owner exhibited any racism.
Clearly I’m not his biggest fan, but I never heard him say anything that I considered to be racist around me. Now, look, he would know clearly the way I would feel about something like that, so I wouldn’t expect him to. Maybe if he thought he had somebody that felt the same way he felt, he’d feel more comfortable saying such things, but clearly never around me.
Christopher “Mad Dog” Russo ranted about how Sterling’s racism was apparent a long time ago, and it was ignored.
