Progressive leaders of unions, consumer advocacy groups, and government agencies came together on The Agenda with Ari Rabin-Havt on SiriusXM Progress early Thursday morning to express their extreme displeasure and disgust with the Supreme Court’s ruling in McCutcheon vs. FEC.
United Steelworkers President Leo Gerard lamented that while rich people may be able to buy more food and clothing, they should not be able to buy more democracy.
Larry Norton, former FEC general counsel said that SCOTUS’ ruling in McCutcheon vs. FEC will go down in American history as one of the worst rulings, along with Citizens United.
“Yesterday’s decision was about establishing plutocrat rights.”
Robert Weissman, President of Public Citizen, a consumer rights advocacy group, said a Constitutional amendment is the only remedy for rulings like these.
