Watch Vance Joy perform an acoustic cover of Bruce Springsteen’s Dancing in the Dark

March 31, 2014

You might already know folk-pop prince Vance Joy (aka Australia’s James Keogh) from his Spectrum hit, Riptide, but did you know that the shaggy-haired singer also has a special gift for stripping down ’80s pop hits and morphing them into sensitive-sounding indie ballads?

During a recent visit to SiriusXM, Vance Joy performed an excellent cover of Bruce Springsteen’s ’84 hit single Dancing in the Dark. Where The Boss’ syncopated, synthy original likely inspired millions of Gen X-ers to jump out of their seats and do the Molly Ringwald dance (see also: Courteney Cox), Vance’s rendition takes the opposite approach: His Dancing in the Dark is soft, slow, borderline falsetto, and perfectly stripped down.
