If all you know of Johnny Cash’s story is movie Walk the Line, it might seem like iconic country singer-songwriter spent the years after the movie left off basking in the bright lights of fame. But in fact quite the opposite is true.
Though his career took off in the late ’50s and progressed in the ’60s and ’70s, the ’80s were harder on the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer, who suffered a drug addiction relapse and released a bulk of recordings that failed to make an impression on the country charts.
Now, thanks to Cash and June Carter’s son, John Carter Cash, a handful of Johnny Cash’s long-forgotten songs are available on a brand-new compilation disc, Johnny Cash: Out Among The Stars, which was originally produced in the early ’80s by Billy Sherrill and features two duets with June Carter Cash and one with Waylon Jennings.
In celebration of Out Among The Stars’ release week, John Carter Cash will host an hour-long special in Outlaw Country this weekend, featuring the album in its entirety, plus commentary from Cash and June Carter’s only son.
