The Billy Joel Channel: Hear the Piano Man’s hits, unreleased tracks, interviews, live shows + more

March 24, 2014

Calling all Piano Men (and women)! Starting Wednesday, March 26, SiriusXM will launch The Billy Joel Channel, a brand-new limited-engagement station celebrating the life and work of the legendary singer-songwriter.

Featuring music spanning the Movin’ Out singer’s entire multi-decade career, the channel will run for approximately three months, showcasing everything from Joel’s earliest work with The Hassles to his upcoming CD/DVD release, A Matter of Trust: The Bridge to Russia (dropping May 20).

And when we say “everything,” we really do mean EVERYTHING: archival interviews, rare live performances, and, come May 20, Joel’s entire new release: A Matter of Trust: The Bridge to Russia. That’s right: Billy Joel superfans will hear his entire 1987 concert recorded in Russia, which includes 12 unreleased tracks and bonus material.

Channel programmer Gregg Steele is particularly excited to showcase Billy’s full concert in Russia, something he says has never been available before.

“There are so many neat aspects about Billy and his music, both from his successful songs that everybody knows to his lesser-known material,” said Gregg. “[But] I think you’ll get a greater sense of Billy [on the Billy Joel Channel] because of the things that you AREN’T as familiar with. We’ve got access to his earlier solo work and his new live record (A Matter of Trust). When that performance originally happened in 1987, it was compiled into a CD called ‘Kontsert.’ But CDs at the time had time limitations. What’s being released now is the entire concert — not just 70 minutes worth of music.”

Unable to keep it a secret, Joel himself spilled the beans about his SiriusXM channel on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, saying “…They want me to program some music that I like to listen to [and] talk about what we like to listen to on the road. I’m just gonna wing it.”

So, don’t be a Stranger. Tune in to the Billy Joel Channel starting Wednesday, March 26 at 6 pm ET and running through June 25 via Ch. 4, online, and through the SiriusXM Internet Radio App.
