’80s on 8: Big 40 Countdown March 14, 1981 (3/14/14)

March 17, 2014

This week our Big 40 Countdown brings us back to March 14, 1981 right around the time the ’81 March Madness tournament was underway with Depaul University’s #1 unbeaten team falling to St. Joseph’s University in the 2nd round and when the world was being introduced to its first Rubik’s Cube speed contest.

In the music world on March 14, 1981 the sounds of REO Speedwagon, Styx, and Blondie held high spots on the chart, while only three months after his death John Lennon’s Woman was still near the top at number 3. And our number 1 song this week in 1981 was Dolly Parton’s 9 to 5 from the move of the same name which was also Dolly’s debut feature film.
