Fun. fans will be pleased to know that lead guitarist Jack Antonoff has been hard at work (while on and off tour, no less) on a solo project known as Bleachers, which will be releasing an album later this spring. Antonoff recently stopped by to chat with OutQ‘s Larry Flick about the first single I Wanna Get Better, which was released on February 17. Fun. may be known for breakout indie anthems like We Are Young and Some Nights, but with Bleachers, Antonoff has been spending most nights hard at work on their first album. He told Flick the full story about working on the project, which, once you listen to the first single’s sound bite below, might even be more fun than fun.
“I just know that I wanted to make it, and I knew that when I should have been sleeping, I was up at the studio in Malaysia or I was awake in my hotel room in New Zealand working on songs, and when I was home for a week off, instead of going on vacation I was in the studio,” Antonoff said. “That’s something to me that ended up being very beautiful about the process… I felt so compelled to do it and excited to do it in a time when it was truly un-ideal to do it.”
