B.J. Novak’s real and made up celebrity experiences

February 19, 2014

You already know comedian B.J. Novak from NBC’s The Office and Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds, but you probably haven’t been introduced to him as a novelist… yet. Novak stopped by Raw Dog‘s Unmasked with Ron Bennington to add another hyphen to actor-writer-director and discuss his new book of short stories, One More Thing.

While he says the book is fiction, he admits much of it is inspired by his own personal experiences, both in reality and inside his own head.

“Some of the stories feature real people… I hope it’s OK with them,” Novak said. “Johnny Depp is in a story. Justin Bieber is a character in a story about Chris Hansen, who has to go to one of his concerts with his daughter, and he is afraid that everyone’s staring at him and wondering who he’s gonna bust.”

But in addition to the fantastical celebrity experiences in his book, Novak also spoke of the most fantasy-turned-reality experience he’s ever had while working on Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds.

“I get out of this truck on a night in Berlin, Quentin Tarantino’s there in a leather jacket framing a scene, Brad Pitt’s there in a white tuxedo and he says ‘hey man,’” Novak says. “This is just movie heaven. It’s never, ever going to be like this again.”
