How passionate were fans of the Seattle Sonics? According to former three-point marksman Detlef Schrempf, on the same level as the Seattle Seahawks faithful. And because of that, Schrempf said Thursday on SiriusXM NBA Radio, now it’s as obvious ever that Seattle needs its NBA team back.
“If you guys follow football, and just see what the Seahawks did, and see what the 12th man did for the Seahawks, you know, we had that in Seattle,” Schrempf said. “We had the sixth man just like the 12th man for the Seahawks.
Schrempf qualified that’s it’s not about poaching an NBA team from another city.
“Nobody wants to steal a team. I think the Sacramento opportunity came along because, financially, they were struggling; they couldn’t make it work,” Schrempf said.
He added, though, that the ongoing issues Sacramento has experienced in trying to retain the Kings wouldn’t be a problem in the Pacific Northwest.
“Seattle will not have those issues,” Schrempf said. “We have the fifth richest man in the world behind it,” referring to Chris Hansen.
