The first 2014 regular season matchup between rivals Duke and UNC was scheduled for Wednesday night but Mother Nature had other plans as crippling snow in the Raleigh/Durham area forced ACC officials to postpone the game until next Thursday, Feb. 20th.
Mike Krzyzewski made his first public comments on the postponement on tonight’s Basketball and Beyond.
It was the smart thing to do. Their fans were not able to get to the game. We couldn’t even get a bus here (to Duke’s campus). The route you have to take to get there was a parking lot. It’s a good decision. […] Obviously you’re ready to play the game, you want to play the game, and they do too, but it was the right decision.
The postponement forces Coach K and the Blue Devils to play four games in eight days.
Steve Fisher has led the #5 San Diego State Aztecs to a 21-2 record this season. Fisher joined Coach K this week and talked about the leader on his team.
“We have one great addition, Josh Davis, who transferred after he graduated from Tulane,” Fisher told Coach K. “He’s as good a rebounder especially at the offensive end as I’ve ever had. Josh Davis keys what we do from a rebounding standpoint.”
SDSU is a member of the Mountain West conference, a league that had five (of nine) teams in the NCAA tournament last season. Coach K asked Fisher if the Mountain West is as strong this year.
Not on paper it’s not. We have not had the marquee wins as a league that we did last year. Ourselves and New Mexico are the two teams that have had really good wins. We won’t get five [into the tournament]. I’m hoping we get three or four in but you better be ready to play when you play against Boise State, Colorado State, because they’re well coached and they’re good teams.
Coach K takes to the airwaves Thursdays at 6 pm ET throughout the college basketball season on SiriusXM College Sports Nation. Basketball and Beyond with Coach K, co-hosted by Dave Sims, is in its ninth season, and is available live on Ch. 91, on the SiriusXM app and on SiriusXM On Demand.
