Clay Aiken recently announced that he is running for Congress in North Carolina’s second district and, according to SiriusXM Progress host Ari Rabin-Havt, his announcement video was “one of the most impressive campaign announcements” he had ever seen.
“Your personal story was so touching right off the bat,” Rabin-Havt told the candidate (and former American Idol contestant) on today’s episode of his show The Agenda.
In the clip below, Aiken describes his harrowing early years when his mother fled his abusive birth father to a friend’s house where they slept on the floor for eight months and how that led him to where he is today.
“I don’t tell that story for sympathy, to compare scars with people. But mostly to illustrate that we all go through troubles, we all go through difficulties in life and they make us who we are. And that to me helped form my value system and who I am because my mother protected me from that, and my mother’s friend who eventually I considered a grandmother… they were very integral in helping to create my value system and I think that is why I decided I wanted to run,” Aiken said.
And here is the video for Aiken’s candidacy, in case you missed it.
The Agenda with Ari Rabin-Havt airs live Monday through Friday, 6 am – 9 am ET on SiriusXM Progress, Ch. 127.
