A commissioner for the owners, more than a commissioner for the fans: That’s how David Stern’s long NBA tenure will be remembered, columnist Howard Beck argued in a recent article in Bleacher Report.
Beck joined Off the Dribble last week on SiriusXM NBA Radio to discuss the column, and explain why despite growing the league during his time as commissioner, Stern will always have his detractors.
“We all stipulate from the start when we talk about David Stern that he’s one of the great commissioners in professional sports of all-time,” Beck said. “My point in the column yesterday was that, yeah, he’s got a complicated legacy.”
Beck continued to argue why Stern went against the interest of fans with the moves of the Charlotte Hornets’ and Seattle Sonics’ franchises.
Off the Dribble airs daily at 12 pm ET on SiriusXM NBA Radio, channel 217.
