Michael Vick says he won’t be a backup next season

One of the most exciting quarterbacks in NFL history, Michael Vick enters the 2014 offseason as a free agent. He’ll likely have a handful of teams to pick from as his next landing spot, with several rosters – Cleveland, Jacksonville and Oakland a few of them, as pointed out by SiriusXM NFL Radio’s Rich Gannon – lacking a reliable signal-caller.

Thursday on SiriusXM NFL Radio at Radio Row, Gannon and Bruce Murray asked what Vick would do if he signs with a team, and winds up as a backup.

“Candidly speaking, I wouldn’t allow myself to lose a quarterback battle,” Vick said. “I wanna play, and ultimately that’s what’s gonna drive me. And if there’s some competition, it’s only going to bring out the best in me.”

Vick also listed the traits he’ll be looking for in his next NFL team.

“Gotta have a great coach,” Vick said. “Gotta have a great defense, and you gotta have some guys to throw the ball to. And obviously, nothing works without an offensive line.”
