Not only is it a new year, but Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. The Wine Coach, Laurie Forster, joined SiriusXM Stars‘ Wake Up with Taylor to catch them up on what’s happening in wine and to set the scene for a romantic Valentine’s Day at home. Here are her three tips:
1) It’s all about Prosecco, baby.
Sparkling wine used to only be drunk at weddings, and New Year’s Eve, and other black tie optional-type affairs. But according to Forster, Prosecco is changing all that. “Prosecco is so hot. Consumption is way up and there’s no stopping it. This is a $20 bottle so you could have this on a random Tuesday night,” she says.
2) Make it last.
Want to open one of your favorite bottles of wine, but worried if you don’t drink the entire thing it will go to waste? Worry no more. Now you can use a Coravin, a nifty contraption that will allow you to drink a glass of wine and save the rest of the bottle for up to a year. “I’m going to pour this from the Coravin, designed by a rocket scientist, to pour the wine without ever opening the bottle,” Forster says.
3) Make your Valentine’s Day sparkle.
Then there’s the dreaded February 14. Not dreaded because you have to express and celebrate your love, of course. Dreaded because of the obscene mark-ups. “I have something that will make your Valentine’s amazing. It’s called Banfi Brachetto d’Acqui. It’s a sweet sparkling red wine. For Valentine’s Day, you buy this Banfi Brachetto d’Acqui and some great chocolate,” Forster suggests. Then just pop it open and enjoy a bottle together after the kids go to sleep. Valentine’s Day, minus the babysitter and the prix fixe, but with all the romance in tact.
