Legendary folk singer-songwriter Pete Seeger, singer of such mid-20th century activist anthems as If I Had A Hammer, Turn! Turn! Turn! (To Everything There Is A Season), and We Shall Overcome, passed away Monday night at the age of 94.
Leading a folk music revival in the ’50s and ’60s, Seeger was perhaps best known for popularizing the five-string banjo, consistently asking the audience to sing along with him in concert, recording anthems with themes of love, peace, and brotherhood, and speaking out for the oppressed.
