James Brown has been covering the NFL for over two decades. He joined Mike Krzyzewski this week on Basketball and Beyond to preview the Super Bowl.
Brown pointed to Peyton Manning as the key for the Denver Broncos’ success.
I don’t know that you can say enough about him. He had to be superb all season long. As he went, the team went. To have to be able to go out there and perform at that level of excellence game in and game out at 37 years old, multiple neck surgeries, that speaks volumes about him.
For the Seattle Seahawks, Brown says their defense is their core.
“When you go there, you know that you have been in a battle,” Brown told Coach K. “Smart, quick, aggressive, hard-hitting, strong on the defensive line, strong at the linebacking core … the defensive backs defending those receivers are as good as there is period.”

As the college basketball season heats up with conference play, ESPN’s college basketball analyst Dick Vitale also joined Coach K this week. He said the biggest surprises this season have been Iowa, Iowa State and Wisconsin.
Vitale also discussed why the current conference play has been rough for some teams.
The bottom line is when you play in tough conferences, the top conferences, whether it be the Big 10, the ACC, the Big East, you talk about major leagues … you’re going to get bumps. Competition, teams are familiar with one another, [plus] it’s not easy playing the game against people within your league, especially as we’ve seen in college basketball when you go away from home.
