L.A. rapper Kid Ink, who just unleashed the brand-new album My Own Lane, truly believes in the power of lyrics. Sitting down with Hip-Hop Nation‘s Torae, Kid Ink delved into how his fans perceive his hooks versus his lyrics, working with renowned lyricist Pusha T, and his overall goal in being seen as a lyricist.
“As soon as people hear the hook and the beat, they feel a certain kind of way about it,” revealed Kid. “They’re not really ignoring [my] verses, but [my verses] don’t really matter to them. Sometimes stuff goes over people’s heads because they’re not listening the same way they would be listening to another person’s verse who’s spittin’. They’re not even concerned about the hook at that point.”
