With the legalization of marijuana in Colorado taking a very public spotlight, the debate has resurfaced over whether the ban on the drug should be lifted for good. On a recent edition of SiriusXM Patriot‘s Mike Church Show, Church dove right into the history of marijuana, piecing apart the long-held stigma of the drug.
Many are wondering: If legalizing marijuana is such a good idea, why was it outlawed in the first place? Church explains how it was a mix of fear and ignorance over the past 70 or 80 years that led to marijuana being criminalized. Not fear of health or anything like that, but the fear of destruction of private, individual property.
“After 30 years now of listening to people talking about this and how confounded people still are about it remains a mystery to me… there is still a stigma attached to it,” Church said. “No one in the establishment wants anything to do with any of this because this is a threat to their power.”
