Bun B: “You need that high skill level to stay in the game.”

November 29, 2013

How does the hip-hop music scene nowadays compare to back in the day? According to Bun B, quite a lot has changed over time. The legendary member of UGK recently stopped by The Ed Lover Show on Backspin to discuss everything from the evolution of hip-hop to his latest album, Trill O.G.: The Epilogue.

Bun B explained that the game has changed from the classic era of hip-hop to the recent scene, as nowadays there are far more ways to profit than in the past. He notes that the skill level needed to succeed in hip-hop has drastically declined to what it was like back in the classic era.

“In the early days…it was really just about building your reputation in the hip-hop community and in the culture,” he said. “[But] you definitely need that high skill level of either talent, business or both to stay in the game.”

Be sure to tune in to The Ed Lover Show, weekdays at 5 pm ET on Backspin, Ch. 46.
