November 22, 2013

Rebroadcasting 11/23 at 11 pm ET; Sunday 11/24 at 10 am and 1 pm ET

Berry Gordy: factory worker, turned songwriter, turned record producer, turned founder of Motown. He discovered history-making artists, including The Miracles, Marvin Gaye, and The Temptations along the way, and like most game-changers, the start of his career began unconventionally.

Seth Speaks with Berry Gordy, living legend about his amazing self-taught knowledge of notes and chords by associating the scale to numbers while passing the time working on a car factory assembly line.

Gordy also spoke about Michael Jackson, the “most talented kid [he's] ever seen,” who he met early on in the Jackson 5’s career. “When he got on the stage, he became an animal,” Gordy said.
