You don’t get trades much bigger than the one the Detroit Tigers and Texas Rangers pulled off this week, as Prince Fielder was shipped to the Lone Star State in exchange for Ian Kinsler.
Former New York Mets general manager and current Mad Dog Sports Radio host Steve Phillips hopped on SiriusXM Fantasy Sports Radio Wednesday night to react to the deal. Phillips suggested that the move to Arlington could result in a bounce-back season for Fielder.
“I think the ballpark will certainly be a factor there,” Phillips said. “That typically gives most hitters a certain level of confidence. And I think something wasn’t right in Detroit.”
Phillips added that Fielder, who hit 25 home runs in 2013, could up his total to the 35-40 range in 2014.
As for Kinsler, Rangers assistant general manager Thad Levine spoke about the team’s decision to ship their second baseman to Detroit on MLB Network Radio.
Rangers manager Ron Washington also discussed his team’s acquisition of Fielder.
