It’s been Gaga central on SiriusXM lately. To celebrate the release of her new album ARTPOP, our favorite Mother Monster recently stopped by SiriusXM Hits 1 for an exclusive Town Hall. In an intimate setting with some of her closest fans, Gaga got cozy with The Morning Mashup crew.
So what did the Applause star chat about? Just about everything from what it was like working with R. Kelly, to her time recovering in a wheelchair, to her weakness for Chicago pizza.
One thing that rang true throughout the entire interview was that – despite the massive fame – the global superstar is surprisingly down-to-earth. Strip down the elaborate costumes and she’s just a normal girl who misses everything about being, well, normal. Gaga admits that she can’t always go out and do average things, but that living in Chicago has made it surprisingly easier for her to stroll by unnoticed.
“I actually go out and you don’t always notice,” she said. “I know how to fly under the radar.”
Speaking of blending in, Gaga admits to unwinding at home just like your average girl. “I listen to Metal and I watch TV and eat pizza,” she said.
Staying in a small apartment has also helped to keep her grounded when everything around her is all about the glitz and glamour. Gaga notes that it’s staying in touch with her humble roots that gives her the inspiration to keep on going.
“[Back then] I lived and died by my own actions and when you have to do that, you have to make the right choices,” Gaga said. “Because if you don’t work the right job or surround yourself with the right people you won’t succeed.”
So what does an internationally acclaimed star like to eat? “I love ordering Chicago pizza. It’s so bad,” Gaga said.
(Just how bad is her craving for a deep-dish slice? She shared a hilarious personal story of when her boyfriend caught her eating in the bathroom right smack in the middle of the night.)
Gaga admits that she no longer deprives herself when it comes to food. Growing up with “really bad” eating disorders, she now can happily give in and treat herself every now and then.
“I think Born this Way really healed me … And I just want to be happy, I want to be really happy and want my fans to be happy too,” she said.
One thing that made Gaga super happy was working with her “dream collaborator,” R. Kelly. She shared her story on sending him the song – only to find out that he wanted to sing on the track and write his own lyrics to be featured.
