Miami Dolphins guard Richie Incognito’s racially-charged harassment directed toward teammate Jonathan Martin captured sports headlines in the past several days. News of his action begged the question: How prevalent is bullying in the NFL?
According to San Francisco 49ers safety Donte Whitner, it isn’t an issue in the Bay Area.
“This is one of the closest groups of men I’ve ever been around, you know. We play and we have fun, but we know not to cross certain boundaries,” Whitner said on SiriusXM NFL Radio. “We don’t even do the whole rookie hazing thing. It came from, you know, coach Harbaugh said it from day one, we’re not going to do it, we care more so about incorporating a rookie into our system that can help us win football games.”
Whitner also spoke about the off-field issues of teammate Aldon Smith.
