Why Obama didn’t get into Alan Dershowitz’s Harvard law classes

October 23, 2013

Harvard law professor and best-selling author Alan Dershowitz has taught over 10,000 students in his 50-year career. Now, on his 75th birthday and his last year of teaching, Dershowitz tells Michael Smerconish about his new book, Taking the Stand: My Life in the Law, and some of the world leaders he recounts teaching over the years in it. Who are some of his star pupils?Justice Elena Kagan, best-selling author Jim Cramer and former Governor Elliot Spitzer (D-NY), to name a few. Not to mention Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) who Dershowitz calls “one of the best students in my class.”

Unfortunately for a young Barack Obama, after trying to get into legal ethics twice, he was shut out due to class size restrictions. “He’s always been mad at me for that,” Dershowitz said.
