Nick Kostos breaks down the five story lines to watch in Week 5 of the NFL season.
Amazing slate of games
Sunday’s menu of games is the tastiest in recent memory. Between Saints-Bears, Patriots-Bengals, Chiefs-Titans, Lions-Packers, Seahawks-Colts, Ravens-Dolphins and Texans-49ers, there won’t be a dull moment all day.
Russell Wilson vs. Andrew Luck
The Seahawks and Colts matchup features a battle of two of the best young quarterbacks in the NFL: Seattle’s Russell Wilson and Indianapolis’ Andrew Luck. It’s their first head-to-head meeting since both men were selected in last year’s NFL draft, and it promises to be an epic duel.
The greatness of Peyton Manning
Are you the type of person that doesn’t like pizza? Do you prefer Jersey Shore to Breaking Bad? Are you the kind of person that thinks Picasso was a fraud? If so, you probably don’t appreciate the greatness of Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning, and that’s a shame. Manning has had a celestial start to the season, tossing 16 touchdowns against zero interceptions through the first four games. Those are video game-type numbers, except it’s real life. Unless you’re a Cowboys fan, enjoy watching Manning play this weekend.
Battle for the NFC North
One of the most intriguing matchups on Sunday features the 3-1 Lions visiting the 1-2 Packers. Detroit hasn’t beaten Green Bay at Lambeau Field since the elder Bush administration, and a victory would make a statement that the Lions are for real — and could potentially win the NFC North.
Thanks to the Oakland A’s winning the AL West, and thus hosting home playoff games this weekend, the Chargers-Raiders game was moved to 11:35 pm ET. Bonus football for everyone! While it likely means East Coasters like myself will be dead tired on Monday morning, I say that we suck it up, have an extra cup of coffee and enjoy the late start.
