After playing his way to the bench and facing a storm of criticism from his coaching staff, Tampa Buccaneers’ quarterback and former first-round draft pick Josh Freeman was released by the team Thursday.
The way Freeman’s Tampa Bay tenure ended was a topic of discussion on SiriusXM NFL Radio Thursday, as Pat Kirwan disagreed with the Buccaneers’ decision to release the young quarterback so close to the end of his contract.
“They had one year to go on this thing, and I thought that they should have worked through this season to get it to work,” Kirwan said. “Now they’re going to write a check for the rest of this money, and he’s on the street and able to go somewhere else. You never even got value for the guy.”
