After years of playing against Wes Welker, it’s clear that Peyton Manning is happy to now be on the same side as the veteran wide receiver
Manning was huge in the Denver Broncos’ season-opening game against the Baltimore Ravens Thursday night. He passed for 462 yards and a ridiculous seven touchdowns, leading the Broncos to a 49-27 romp over the defending Super Bowl champs. Welker, in his first game with Denver, racked up nine receptions, 67 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
“Welker’s tough down in the red zone,” Manning said of his new target. “I’ve seen him catch touchdowns on that little option route. Usually I was on the other side, and usually it made me mad every time he caught it. It was nice to be on the same side as Welker.”
Manning, who joined SiriusXM NFL Radio following the victory, also spoke about the big game from tight end Julius Thomas, and what the thought process was behind using the pistol formation on offense.
