sxmElectro goes to the (Electric) Zoo

September 3, 2013

After the day three cancellation of Electric Zoo due to the tragic deaths of two concertgoers and the hospitalizations of countless others, the entire Labor Day weekend was veiled in tragedy. But before things got out of hand, fans enjoyed moments of lighthearted joy and a celebration of music that the event was meant to embody. Boasting over 100 of the top artists in the EDM scene today, including Tiesto, Hardwell, Cazzette, David Guetta and more, the Made Event crew delivered on lofty goals set during the preceding four years.

With a swell in attendance due to a second main stage dubbed simply “Main Stage East,” concertgoers had an additional set of A-level acts to chose from, including Excision, Knife Party and Base Nectar.

Other new additions and revamps seen across the festival included The Riverside, which held label-curated lineups from Boys Noize and OWSLA on night one, A Trak’s label Fools Gold on night two, and a DIM MAK Records bill slated for the third and final night. The Riverside also used 3-D visuals for many of the acts, including the Skrillex/Boys Noize collaboration, Dog Blood, which had one of the most memorable sets of the weekend.

SiriusXM made its home away from home directly to the right of Main Stage West where the sxmElectro crew was hard at work broadcasting sets and interviews for the duration of the festival. Visitors to the tent included Above & Beyond, who reaffirmed what so many of the DJs had been talking about, that Electric Zoo is the American EDM festival DJ favorite. Electric Zoo first timers Tritonal–considered up and comers on the scene and currently ranked #65 on DJ Mag’s top 10–stopped by as well, along with Hardwell, Martin Solveig and Tiesto, who we interviewed (and took shots with) in his private trailer.
