The Internet exploded when a record-breaking 5.9 million people tuned into the premiere of the second half of Breaking Bad season five on Sunday. The episode, which was the most-watched installment of the show yet, prompted more than 750,000 tweets as viewers watched the first of the final eight episodes.
Breaking Bad cast members stopped by the Morning Mash Up on SiriusXM Hits 1 to talk about the show’s finale as well as the evolution of their characters and the show since its beginnings as a low-budget AMC drama in 2008.
“We didn’t have the budget for a dining trailer. We had a tent that we’d eat in in the winter in New Mexico,” said Betsy Brandt, who plays Marie Schrader. “Breaking Bad was the little show that could.”
Anna Gunn, who plays Walter White’s wife, Skyler, said the way creator Vince Gilligan ends the series is similar to past season finales.
“The way he’s ended every season where you think, ‘How are all those tentacles, all those story lines, how are they possible going to come back together?’ and then they do, and you say, ‘Oh my God, now I understand,’” Gunn said.
