Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel told Bill King of SiriusXM College Sports Nation that he left the Manning Passing Academy early because he “overslept.”
“I didn’t do a good enough job of making sure my phone was charged or my alarm was set, or a way to get up,” Manziel said. “It wasn’t anything due to the night prior, anything like that. It was nothing more than oversleeping, waking up the next day and realizing that I was late.
“I had obligations to fulfill, I missed the morning obligations, and that was completely on me,” Manziel added.
Following his early exit from the camp, reports surfaced suggesting Manziel was kicked out of the camp after showing up hungover. The Mannings released a statement Tuesday, however, saying that Manziel had felt ill.
The reigning Heisman Trophy Award winner made the comments in Hoover, Ala., at SEC Media Day. He also spoke with King about the pressure of constantly being in the spotlight, and about the Texas A&M offense heading into the 2013 season.
SiriusXM College Sports Nation will be broadcasting from SEC Media Day on Thursday, and then from the ACC, Big 12, Big Ten and PAC 12 media days. Listen to coverage on SiriusXM channel 91.
